The Healthy Competition

Is there really such a thing as healthy competition?
While competition is all about being number one, becoming the most famous, getting on top, and gaining the reputation of being the best, there is actually a competition that demands self denial.
If you’re thinking that this post will educate you more about competition or give you tips on gaining publicity and winning awards then I’m telling you you’re reading the wrong post.
But if you’re willing to read one more sentence then maybe you’ll be interested to read the whole post.
The competition that I call healthy, although requires self denial is pretty much rewarding.
You heard it right.
Self denial is rewarding.
Who rewards and what’s the reward?
God is the rewarder and He is the reward.
If it sounds crazy to you then it’s a good reason to go on reading.
Call me crazy but I believe He is.
I believe He is because He said so.
Now what is that healthy competition that God rewards?
There’s a word for it —LOVE.
Loving others requires self denial.
And it is rewarding to deny yourself because it is what the Lord of lords commands.
Here’s the text:

Romans 12:10

New American Standard Bible (NASB)

10 Be devoted to one another in brotherly love; [a]give preference to one another in honor;
We are to outdo one another in giving honor, in serving, in loving, in hospitality.
We should be thinking less of ourselves and more of others.
We ought to love others as ourselves.
Instead of thinking about how others can help us or what we can benefit from them we’ve got to make every effort to serve them, care for them before ourselves, and even lay down our lives to save theirs.
Now that is love.
God rewards those who love Him and those who love Him loves the people He has made.
And He is the ultimate reward.
When you have Him you shall lack nothing.
When you are with Him you shall fear nothing.
When you are in Him there is fullness of joy.
If you want proof then the bible is inviting you to Taste and See that the Lord is Good.

  1. I truly believe in this. We should even love our enemies, but sometimes it gets too damn hard to do it, especially when they are in your day time space at work.

  2. In a retail sense competition reduces prices and a companies monopoly on the public. In a religious sense, I believe as long as you have faith and it doesn’t hurt anyone else then believe. Yahweh, Buddha, the force, wiccan, huge space God. What matters is having faith and being a great person.

  4. Your love and desire to please Jesus shine through your writing. Thank you for this post.

  5. Where’s the “Love it” button when you need one? In dying to ourselves we find the “life to the full” that Jesus talked about. Won’t find it any other way! 🙂

  6. I appreciate your post. I just recently preached about this very subject at our church. Keep on sharing the godly knowledge the Lord has given you. Here is a verse to go with this challenge.
2 Corinthians 10:12 For we dare not make ourselves of the number, or compare ourselves with some that commend themselves: but they measuring themselves by themselves, and comparing themselves among themselves, are not wise.
