Please help me, oh God, to give my dear friend, Blaine, comfort that comes not from a weary heart, but one filled with a sense of the purpose You brought me to this earth for — to love the hurting and comfort the afflicted.
I bow to my knees in holy reverence that you are my Lord. Help me to serve suffering humanity while I am here. Then, when my work is done, You will call me to another room filled not wearing the grave clothes of my own humanity, but with the holy robe of Your love for the whosoever, and eternal joy with You.
Help us all, oh God, in our struggles that in the darkness of our hearts, in the pain of heart and mind of these mortal bodies, we who know You and seek to walk with You, will be a people of faith, in the trust of things not yet seen or experienced, because we never walk alone. Your loving footsteps are with us as we walk closer with You.
Help us in our ever-darkening world to be Your people of light and hope. Grant us courage to stand up for our convictions. Give us the braveness of heart and soul that with Your holy power resting on us, we would bring people to know You and Your Son, who walked with His disciples through the wind, rain and scorching desert to bring searching hearts the knowledge of how they could be saved from their sins.
Give us a love that knows no bounds, hears the hurting hearts, that in our own woundedness, we would be wounded healers of others.
Help us to teach those You call us to about a Christ who understands their suffering and wants them to know a joy that can’t be defined by any words; it is the joy of Heaven here on earth; the Heaven that we can make here while we all battle against the injustice and inhumanity of poverty not merely the poverty of hunger, but a deeper far more piercing poverty, that of the soul.
Father, we can have a much kinder and more just world if we believe it, if we do the hard roll up our sleeves work to fight for it, with the beautiful minds You gave us.
Thank you for loving us. Hear us as we pray to You.
