Ever seen a standing branch bear fruit? Well, this surely never has happened, because the moment the branch is cut off from the stem, it is disconnected from the root. There is no food from the roots, no life, no fruit, and only death.
Fruitfulness is the character of God, and He is interested in fruitful persons. In the Gospel of John, Christ says any branch that does not bear fruit will be cut off, and any that bears will be pruned, so that it bears much more. (John 15 v. 1-2).
So what fruit are children of God expected to bear? Galatians 5 v. 22 – 23 tells us all: love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.
Are you full of love? Is the joy of the lord your strength, and do you rejoice at the wellbeing of others? Do you plant seeds of peace in your home and your neighbourhood? Do you endure for the lord and for the sake of making heaven? Are you warmhearted, considerate, humane and sympathetic? Do you have the tendency to forgive any wrong committed against you? Do you see someone in need and attend to it, even if it doesn’t benefit you?
Are you valuable and useful in this generation to let more persons enjoy the unequalled gift of eternal life in Christ Jesus? Are you in the first place loyal to the God you serve, or conform to the standards of this world? Do you deny yourself for Christ or deny Christ for yourself? Do you control your impulses and your own behaviour?
Against the fruit of the spirit, there is no law. Even here on earth, no one prosecutes the other for sharing joy and love. No one takes you to court for being sympathetic and humane. No one condemns you for controlling your impulses. Even if they do, God doesn’t. Paul says, “There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who walk not according to the flesh, but according to the spirit”. (Romans 8 v. 1 -2).
Remember that your title in church or your position in anything will never make you an occupant of heaven, because title without mantle is little. The fruit of the spirit should be the character of any true Christian, because our character should be the first gospel to the world. It is a snapshot of us to the world, and their take-home package of us.
The old year is gone, and 2014 is now come, but are you a FRUITFUL child of God? Is there need for much more fruit in 2014? Now we have the secret:
Bear the fruit of the spirit; God will prune you, and make you bear lots much more.
WISH YOU A HAPPY AND FRUITFUL 2014.
