CHICKENS AND DUCKS

Yesterday I watched some chickens and ducks around my neighbourhood as they took in water . The ducks drank on and on, but each time the chickens did, they lifted up their heads to the heavens. And I sat wondering what this meant, and it dawned on me that even they had devised a means of saying “THANK YOU”.

In Psalm 107 v 15, we are told to “give thanks to the LORD for His unfailing love and His wonderful deeds for men, for He breaks down gates of bronze, and cuts through bars of iron”. Psalm 118 v 1 reiterates that we should “give thanks to the LORD for He is good; His love endures for ever”.

As human and full of deceit as we are, we love praises and appreciation for the least  we do to others, yet such fails to flow from our lips to Him who giveth us all, without reserve, even up the point of surrendering His one and only son due to His undying love for mankind (John 3 v 16).

Some may argue that our thanks mean nothing, but do not deceive yourself, because appreciation and thankfulness availeth much, especially for God’s seed. In Luke 17 v 11-20, Jesus asks the only leper who had returned to thank Him for the healing “were not all ten cleansed? Where are the other nine? Was no one found to return and give praise to God…”. At the end, this leper who was thankful was not only cured of his physical ailment, but was made entirely well by Christ himself. 2nd Corinthians 9 v 11 says “…you will be made rich in every way…and your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God”.

We are called to always give thanks to God, because He takes pleasure in praises. The Bible says the Lord inhabits the praises of His people. The air  we breathe and the lives we live are priceless gifts of our Father. Our families, friends, fellowship and communion, and above all, our hope of eternal life are more than enough reasons to be grateful at all times to Him who giveth us all without restraint.

In every situation in life, we should always remember to lift up our heads like the chicken, and say “THANK YOU LORD”.
