Apply The Pressure

Philippians 3:12 – 14 – Not that I have already attained, or am already perfected; but I press on, that I may lay hold of that for which Christ Jesus has also laid hold of me. 13 Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, 14 I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.

Of the three verses, the last stood out like Greek columns in my mind. “ I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus“. Tonight is one of those where I feel not to but have to because this walk is not about emotions but about building a solid relationship with God amidst the odds. There is not a record of God saying, I feel like not protecting my children today but rather the word says that HE SAID, he will NEVER leave us or forsake us. We see that his love for us goes beyond mere emotions. It is indescribable. So though I feel like not reading and praying but rather rocking back, looking at some movies that definitely would not have “filt” in them but would not feed my soul but rather the natural man with what is not necessary  to survive, I took my bible and began reading.

When you find a comfort zone in life, you see no need to press in or do more to get more. It’s the same for your relationship with Christ. When we hit that plateau, we need to be mindful that there is more and there is no limit to what we can attain in having a relationship with God. We have to apply the pressure to those earthly feelings and press in further. We have to press towards the mark of the high calling which is in Christ Jesus. It does not matter if you sit in the benches at your church or on the altar. We all have to press in. Go deeper.

As I encourage myself tonight, I encourage you to press in. At times it may feel redundant but I can assure you that the revelations which comes from pressing in are never redundant and carry more ground breaking elements than the previous or those you get when the feeling of praying, reading and worshiping are ever present. Apply the pressure brother/sister. PRESS IN!

  1. Thank you for this… The timing is a God thing… The more I am pressing in the more He cleans out… I love that… Thanks

  2. I can relate to the tendency to feed the wants of our carnal self. When I am recovering from my bronchitis I’ve had for several weeks the inclination inevitably comes that the Enemy is very much a part of, that I can watch a program on Vision TV Ian inter-faith station) or Turner Classic Movies. Then, I turn to these stations to find programming that concerns me about people having affairs or televangelists some of whom are connected to God’s heart and His will for their lives and some who flaunt their worldly success in front of their congregation.

Then, the Holy Spirit speaks to my heart. “Kevin, don’t watch programs like these. The Enemy wants you lured into this programming under the guise that it will keep you informed and abreast of the latest thoughts on societal issues. You need this programming so you can speak with intelligence about societal problems.” Lies, all lies., which Satan uses to lead the faithful on a course of moral destruction not quickly, but slowly as faith gets eaten away at, as questionable morals are necessary to fit into the postmodern culture of you can have any God you want, serve Him in your own way, feel that a half faith is better than no faith at all.

We do not serve a God of our own convenience. Our Lord will not have His character distorted and made into something of societal acceptance. We either serve the God of the Bible or the Prince of Darkness. There is so in-between road.

I fear that this postmodern philosophy that says you can have some of God and some of the world, that you can make up your own belief system as you go along, will be the damnation of many souls. I Peter 3:15 says,” But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect” (NIVUK).

The answer for the hope of Christ within us can never come from a life of half faith, a half commitment to Christ. That is the argument that the junior devil, Wormwood, used with the guidance of the senior devil, Screwtape in C.S. Lewis’s book, “The Screwtape Letters.” A quote from the book.

“It does not matter how small the sins are provided that their cumulative effect is to edge the man away from the Light and out into the Nothing. Murder is no better than cards if cards can do the trick. Indeed the safest road to Hell is the gradual one–the gentle slope, soft underfoot, without sudden turnings, without milestones, without signposts.”
― C.S. Lewis, The Screwtape Letters

Lord, help us to see that the gentle slope of a half faith is the path to Hell. Give us the courage to stand up for our convictions lest we should be dragged into the raging cesspool of our fears. Strengthen our heart and mind and teach us what we need to know, that we would be able to stand against those sly, cunning and insidious attacks of the Enemy, which erode our faith bits at a time until we discover to our shock that we have no faith at all. Amen.

Keep on sharing what the Lord puts on your heart to say. Be faithful in this and your Lord will bless you beyond measure.

Thank you for the beauty, grace, depth and honesty of what you share as you dare to be vulnerable. God bless you for your faithfulness in giving the difficult word we all need to hear.

    • Oh my Gosh. Kevin you are actually responding to thoughts I had on another issue. God is so amazing. Thank you Jesus for using Kevin to get this to me. God bless you brother.
