Beneath That Star – The True Meaning of Christmas

As we enter the Christmas season our thoughts are filled with those to do list questions. Did I include everyone I should be mailing cards to? Did I get the right gift for everyone? Do I have all the food I need for holidays? Have I left anyone off my gift list who should be on it? .Sadly, there is this elusive pursuit of the perfect Christmas. For many in poverty the to do list questions becomes much smaller to ones of Will I qualify for a gift basket from family services? What do I say to my son or daughter when I tell them there will be no gifts for Christmas? Poverty for many means running out of money by the third week of the month.

What is far more important is focusing on those things that bring love, beauty and joy flowing into our lives. It is the love we give to family and friends. It is being there for those who need us. It is reaching out to that colleague who needs your guidance and support.

In the hustle and bustle of all your Christmas preparations could I kindly suggest that you take time to listen to Beneath That Star. In an ever-darkening world Sally reminds us of something that has far more importance than our Christmas to do lists. It is in listening to what that star , that guiding light that led the wise men to celebrate Christ’s birth, means to each of us. It is hope for lives filled with hopelessness. It is love that gives without condition. It is the love of Christ that is in each heart that reaches out to others and says, “Here I am. I will be here through all you experience. I will love you through all the hurt, pain and the loneliness you may be feeling.”

Sally, thanks for bringing the touching message of Beneath That Star to all of us.

I enjoy spending time with people just having a coffee or talking about life, philosophy, religion, politics or sharing a favorite joke or story. We learn from one another as we interact and share our joys, challenges and even our times of sadness. I enjoy reading, writing, singing and sharing in the blessing of community whether that is one on one or in groups. I'm married and am powned by two kitties named Sir William of Lounge a.k.a. Sir Lounge a Lot and Princess Catherine of Chaos a.k.a. Her Royal Highness Catherine of Englehart. I m in an M.A.-Ph.D program with St. James the Elder Theological Seminary to train to become a psychotherapist and priest. Let us pray for and reach out to each other with kindness, love and an embracing compassion. We can working together be servants with two open hands to those in need so that hate, indifference and inequality would lose and love will win. The peace and abounding joy of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you.
