From Abuse to Alleluia – A healing poem for the abused

wounded greatly love greatly

My Lord called upon me today to offer you this healing poem for those who have been abused. It is my gift also to those who counsel and help the abused in social service and ministry work. This is one of the poems for Prayers & Poems from the Garden my wife, Karen, and I are working on.

Your abuser has told you that you are garbage

That you are of no use

You will always be refuse

Today, hear this truth and hear it deep inside

When from life you seek to hide

Tears are with you day and night

You live in darkness, desire to see light

Because the many lies your abuser has beaten you to believe

Remember your abuser’s goal is you to deceive

To tell you that you are ugly

To have you become the false self

Not the true self you are meant to be

You are a beautiful person inside

Not ugly

Not stupid

Not a failure

Speak these truths to yourself over and over

I am beautiful

I am creative

I am articulate

I am intelligent

I am an overcomer

Believe that in your hurt and pain

New life and hope you will gain

Reach out to those who care

Who will tell you the true person that lies within there

I have been abused too

My schizophrenic father so many times did beat me

He did not in his sickness want me the truth to see

Did not want me from my prison of lies to be set free

These are the lies he told me

You are stupid

You are weak

You are clumsy

Your brother is smarter than you’ll ever be

And these killing words did he say over me

Kevin, I wish you had never been born

You disappoint me

A failure you will always be

I’m healing from my abuse

Know that I’m not a piece of refuse

And neither are you

Hear the truth of who you are

Heal that searing scar

Don’t try to heal on your own

Don’t try to gunnysack the pain

Hear love’s sweet refrain

That there is a plan and purpose for your life

All things are possible to those who believe

Who love from others they are willing to receive

Who will take your hand through your living hell

And will tell you that you’re really swell

That is how you will go from abuse to alleluia

Because this truth you will then know

That you have an overcoming story to share

And the wounded healer you shall be

The victorious healer you shall be

Because lives from their living hell you are setting free

The truth that they are beautiful they will see

What an ambassador of hope you will be!

When broken lives their abuse and alleluia you teach others to see

What an overcoming story that will be!

About Dr. Kevin Osborne B.A., B.Th., M.A., M.Div., Psy.D. Ph.D. and Th.D. Candidate

I enjoy spending time with people just having a coffee or talking about life, philosophy, religion, politics or sharing a favorite joke or story. We learn from one another as we interact and share our joys, challenges and even our times of sadness. I enjoy reading, writing, singing and sharing in the blessing of community whether that is one on one or in groups. I'm married and am powned by two kitties named Sir William of Lounge a.k.a. Sir Lounge a Lot and Princess Catherine of Chaos a.k.a. Her Royal Highness Catherine of Englehart. Two years ago I completed my Doctorate in Psychology (Psy.D.) through St. James the Elder University. On Sept. 26th 2020, I graduated with a Master of Divinity degree from Canadian Christian Theological Seminary. These journeys were started over 20 years ago. In 1997 I received a Bachelor of Theology degree from Canada Christian College & Graduate School. Between working and studying it took 13 years to finish it. Let us pray for and reach out to each other with kindness, love and an embracing compassion. We can working together be servants with two open hands to those in need so that hate, indifference and inequality would lose and love will win. The peace and abounding joy of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you.
