The Hungry Child

poverty being without hope face of child

I see the hungry child look into my eyes

Light dwindling

Hope dying

A distant stare

I ask, “Who out there will care?”

I hold back my tears

I don’t want him to see the anger rising within me

This does not have to be

I give him what little food I can

Seems so little

I wonder if we looked at poverty a different way

If one day it might go away

Treated it as a disease we need to cure

Parasite to hope’s dreams of the hungry child

Eating away at the soul within

Killer of the body

Murderer of the mind

Assassin to the spirit

Let’s do what we can to cure this condition

Offer this caring prescription

We won’t abandon the hungry child

We’ll help him and his parents in their time of need

Support existing poverty alleviation programs

Be open to the ideas of others who offer solutions to poverty

Pray that from poverty’s dark grasp they would be freed

Say for the hungry child I’ll be there

For you I will always care

Then, we can look into the eyes of the hungry child

Say, “You will know hunger no more

Helping you see hope again is what I’m here for.”

Karen and I are assembling pieces for the following future books: Prayers from the Garden, Poems from the Garden and Reflections from Dreaming Together for a Better World. I am also writing song lyrics for a CD entitled Hymns from the Garden. A large percentage of proceeds will go towards poverty alleviation as well as local and international missions. We welcome any assistance with this from interested individuals, literary agents and publishers. Please join with us in prayer that God’s Kingdom work would be completed as I deal with the daily challenges of an extremely rare auto immune condition called mastocytosis. About osborne2029

I enjoy spending time with people just having a coffee or talking about life, philosophy, religion, politics or sharing a favorite joke or story. We learn from one another as we interact and share our joys, challenges and even our times of sadness. I enjoy reading, writing, singing and sharing in the blessing of community whether that is one on one or in groups. I'm married and am powned by two kitties named Sir William of Lounge a.k.a. Sir Lounge a Lot and Princess Catherine of Chaos a.k.a. Her Royal Highness Catherine of Englehart. I m in an M.A.-Ph.D program with St. James the Elder Theological Seminary to train to become a psychotherapist and priest. Let us pray for and reach out to each other with kindness, love and an embracing compassion. We can working together be servants with two open hands to those in need so that hate, indifference and inequality would lose and love will win. The peace and abounding joy of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you.
