Lord, I will never forget that day on bended knee
I go forward to accept Your love for me
Our pastor asks of Christ’s triumphal entry into Jerusalem
“Are you riding the horse in victory or defeat?”
I feel that soul-searching question directed at me
Darkness shouts at me, “Who are you a sinner to receive God’s love?”
I say to the darkness, “Yes, oh yes, that’s me!
Today you will lose the victory over me!”
A force not of my own propels me to the mercy-seat
Where I kneel my wounded spirit before Christ’s feet
Memories of darkness from my schizophrenic father call to me
A failure you always were and always will be
Your brother is smarter than you’ll ever be
He’ll be richer than you’ll ever be!
I say in reply, “To be a servant of my Lord is what I’m called to be
Now, depart evil spirit. Get away from me!
Here I am, Lord. This is me.
Thanks for never giving up on me.
For winning the victory for me
I will love and serve You now into eternity.”
A counselor is there that bitter cold day in March 1982
Kneeling with me
Praying for my soul
Fighting for me through the darkness into light
Giving of himself with all his might
Tears transform into touches of Your love
When I receive a love I can never get enough of
Thank you for loving a sinner like me
For having Your Son’s blood set my spirit free
Crimson blood at Calvary did flow
That we would have a gift that never lets us go
The present of a life that’s changed
Priorities that become rearranged
Caring more for that searching other
To treat everyone as our brother
How, Father, could I ever repay
That glorious day You turned my night to day?
Oh, God, I love you more than words could ever say!
