Spirit Wings of Grace for All
Father, please give us spirit wings of grace to fly
To bask in the love of You, our Father Adonai
We ask for love poured out and running over
Feeling the freedom and joy of sins forgiven
Called to Your purpose for our life
Help those who are in burnout
Who don’t feel Your presence
Life for them has lost its essence
Like the town water pump they are
Giving of their life until there is nothing left
Feeling abandoned by You
Feeling abandoned by others
Lost in all of their responsibilities
Seeking not to show their vulnerabilities
Show them how You have never left
When they feel so deeply bereft
Bring into their lives people who care
Who show by their love they are there
Speak to those who are in burnout
That You never called them to that
We get so caught up in the unreasonable expectations of others and ourselves
Look around for help finding none there
Told that it’s our fault
Church and community need to show compassion to those in burnout
How can we say we wear Your wings of grace when we fail to support those in burnout?
Don’t they like Your prophet Elijah need to have time their inner and physical strength to renew?
Father, when we see precious souls in burnout, give us the love to come alongside them.
Tell them, “It’s time to take time out.
I care about you too much to leave you all alone
You need a break from all you do to feel how much God loves you.”
“God doesn’t call any one of us to give until we feel empty inside
If we do that how can the peace that passes all understanding in us abide?
We can become resentful of those we are called to help
Feel guilty inside for feeling this way
Be caught in a never-ending depressing dark night
Lost in the darkness
Fail to see light
Get physically and emotionally ill
The light of caring in us kill”
“Let a renewed hope be in our speech
Our thoughts
Our words
Our actions
Springtime comes breathing into us its life
A new song is sung of love conquering hate
Caring for that one soul to heal abuse inflicted
Changing our community one life at a time
Let all things green in nature remind us of the best in us
Love freely given
Laughter
That caring hand when it is needed most
Life in far too much death
Too much terror
Too much pain
Too much suffering
Too much agony”
Our Father spoke these thoughts into my heart:
“Please remember, I always love you
For you I always care
For you I’ll always be there
There’s not a tear you shed I don’t feel
My love for you is always real
When you cry out to Me in the lonely night or at anytime
I always hear You
I always listen
I’m always there
Never forget any care with Me you can share
I need your voice among many
Calling community to help all who are treated with cruelty
Showing the courage of your convictions
Compassion’s gift to wounded lives.”
I asked this question of our Father in prayer:
“How can we have the spirit wings of grace?”
He said, “See the potential in each human face.”
I said, “How do I do that?”
He said, “Look with spiritual eyes of love
See the best within each one to you I send
Tell them about My love that has no end
Never judge them for who you perceive they are
You miss seeing so much by judging others with your physical sight
You’ll see only their darkness, none of their light
Tell them I care for them no matter what their sin
I want them to have My peace within
A joy that alcohol and drugs won’t give them
An enduring happiness that all the world’s temptations cannot give
Lust is not love
It’s not the stuff a lasting marriage is made up of
There must be that spark of love I ignite
A mutual respect for one another
Seeking to help the other develop to their potential in Me
Tell others about a purpose that for them is uniquely designed
In doing that my spirit wings of grace for all you will wear
Because you took the time to care.”
Kevin and Karen Osborne are psychotherapists and pastoral counsellors. Kevin is studying to become a chaplain and professor of Psychology specializing in Pastoral Theology. Karen enjoys doing cross-stitch while I like writing and singing songs. Karen makes me laugh when she sings the kitty bed-time song saying, “It’s that time. It’s the bestest kitty time of the day!” Kevin enjoys teasing the kitties and making them do kitty dances with music. Their kitty, Catherine, loves it when kitty daddeh sings All Things Bright and Beautiful. Kevin likes doing impressions. He tells children’s stories and helps others with their problems using his hand puppet, Dr. Teddy, who is a therapy bear. He is a partner with us in our counselling practice. We are available to assist with worship and preaching to give busy pastors and ministers a much-needed break. We offer in-office, and phone counselling to anyone in the world.
