Let Us Come Together

Almighty God, we live in a divided time. News reports focus more on that which causes division than the beautiful things that unite us. Concern for the welfare of others, being there for those who fall on hard times, random acts of kindness, hands of compassion shown in giving a fellow human being a cup of hot coffee and a listening ear – these are the things that should define us as a society. We need to dial down ill-thought words spoken in rage. Anger can be like an uncontrolled fire that consumes everything in its path. Lord, we are better than this. Help us to focus on that which brings us together than the things that tear us apart. We need to sit down together and hear one another. We should never deny and push down what we feel, but we don’t have the right to harm others with either our words or actions. You call us to love one another. The standard of conduct Christ taught His followers to have needs to be ours. Hate always has a bitter end for those who cause it, and the people it is inflicted upon. If we have learned anything from history, 100 percent of the time this is true. We have the right in a free society to protest, but never to harm others while doing it. This is not who God called us to be. This is not who Christ called His disciples and us to be. We are better than this. If we listen to the messengers of hatred, it will only destroy that which defines us as civilized people. Listen carefully to what they say. They are out for their gain, not yours. Father, save us from being deceived. Give us the discernment to sort out truth from the lies. Amen.
I’m a sinner saved by grace teaching others about it.
