The Worst is Never the Worst
“When life is heavy and hard to take, go off by yourself. Enter the silence. Bow in prayer. Don’t ask questions: wait for hope to appear. Don’t run from trouble. Take it full-face. The ‘worst’ is never the worst. Why? Because the Master won’t ever walk out and fail to return. If he works severely, he also works tenderly. His stockpiles of loyal love are immense. He takes no pleasure in making life hard, in throwing roadblocks in the way.” Lamentations 3:28-33 (The Message)
In the past few months, I have joined in prayer for friends and family that have fallen on hard times. Marriage problems, children, health, finances, work, etc. have all come up in our prayer requests. And one of the things that go hand in hand with these obstacles is desperation. Desperation for hope. Desperation for answers. Desperation for a hero. Today I came upon this passage in Lamentations and it pricked my heart. Take a moment to reread it. I’ll wait. 🙂
Ok, now what are you thinking? Are you encouraged that the worst that you could ever imagine can still be saved by God? Are you starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel? If not, then let me add one more truth: You are so incredibly valuable to our Abba Father that He weeps when you weep and he hurts when you hurt, but God knows the bigger picture. He knows that when you call upon Him, He in His greatness can take any problem, any situation, and turn it for the good.
“Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies? And not one of them is forgotten before God. Why, even the hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not; you are of more value than many sparrows.” Luke 12:6-7 ESV This passage has become the cornerstone for my ministry. In Biblical times, a person can by 4 sparrows for 2 pennies and the fifth one, which was normally weak and undesirable, was thrown in for free. Jesus says that even that fifth sparrow, that others normally would toss away because it wasn’t good for anything, that He cares for it and even more so for you.
You might be feeling at the bottom of the barrel, useless, unworthy, hopeless. Those are lies of the devil and you need to recognize the truth from the lies. Wake up! Yes, there will be trouble. It is promised, but our Lord does not forget us. He does not abandon us. He does not forsake us. He is our Savior, our Help, our Comforter, our Prince of Peace, our King of Kings, the Alpha and Omega, the Beginning and the End. He is the Great Physician, He is our Provider. Nothing surprises God. Nothing takes Him by storm. He has no Plan B because His Plan A is perfect. He knew you would be were you are right this very moment. And He is ready to be your Hero. Cast your cares upon Him, because not only can He handle it, but because He cares. I encourage you to bow and pray. Go to the secret place where only you and Him can commune. He’s waiting for you.
