His Command

Love My Neighbor

by Susan Irene Fox

Love my neighbor; Your words are clear,

But which of ‘them’ do I hold dear?

Not those with whom I am annoyed,

nor those who I do not enjoy.

To You I can’t be insincere.

Yet as I read Your words I fear

these are the people You would steer

me, draw to openly with joy.

Love my neighbor.

Oh, Christ, it truly does appear

my enemies You would endear.

All thoughts of neighbor You destroy

which formerly did I employ.

To Your good will I now adhere:

Love my neighbor.
