For several times I did skip meals. I would skip breakfast or lunch or supper intentionally but a lot of times situations just bring you no choice.
Skipping meal is not a fabulous experience. You are not proud of it and definitely don’t enjoy it.
Hunger is a mechanism of the body indicating you need to take in food or else your system will wear out.
When you’re hungry you don’t stop thinking and longing to satisfy your hunger. For as long as we are in the flesh we will always desire food and the pleasure it brings to our stomach. It is even a torture seeing some one eating while you have nothing on your plate. You can’t imagine the way you are feeling and acting when you are hungry. You could be impatient, irritable, angry, and some times you talk like crazy.
Such are the feelings of a hungry child and perhaps there are a lot of things going on his head like wishing, imagining, or any other form of escapism.
Everyday I see hungry kids on the streets. I wonder what they are thinking when it’s lunchtime. They wander in the streets picking up plastic bottles and garbage that could be sold.
I know nothing about their parents and I am in no position to remind them of their responsibilities as parents or judge them.
I would like to bring this issue to the church or what we call the body of Christ.
The body is not just to be a mouth preaching this and preaching that. The body is also to be the hands and feet of Jesus going to where the need is and offering a hand to those who are in need.
We don’t become a light and salt by merely opening our mouths but by being a channel of blessing and by giving the world a picture of grace and love and mercy and compassion.
Try something new this week. Go out in the streets and know if you have a heart for these kids. If you don’t feel anything for them I plead you to pray. Pray that God will cause your heart to break for these children and extend that compassion for any other person in need. If we care enough about having the right pastors and deacons, having the right theology and coming up with the right church system then I guess it’s fundamental to care about whether we have the mind and the heart of our King. Do we care about what He has to say to us when we meet Him in His glorious throne?
Matthew 25 (NASB)
31 “But when the Son of Man comes in His glory, and all the angels with Him, then He will sit on His glorious throne. 32 All the nations will be gathered before Him; and He will separate them from one another, as the shepherd separates the sheep from the goats; 33 and He will put the sheep on His right, and the goats on the left.
34 “Then the King will say to those on His right, ‘Come, you who are blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world. 35 For I was hungry, and you gave Me something to eat; I was thirsty, and you gave Me something to drink; I was a stranger, and you invited Me in; 36 naked, and you clothed Me; I was sick, and you visited Me; I was in prison, and you came to Me.’ 37 Then the righteous will answer Him, ‘Lord, when did we see You hungry, and feed You, or thirsty, and give You something to drink? 38 And when did we see You a stranger, and invite You in, or naked, and clothe You? 39 When did we see You sick, or in prison, and come to You?’ 40 The King will answer and say to them, ‘Truly I say to you, to the extent that you did it to one of these brothers of Mine, even the least of them, you did it to Me.’
41 “Then He will also say to those on His left, ‘Depart from Me, accursed ones, into the eternal fire which has been prepared for the devil and his angels; 42 for I was hungry, and you gave Me nothing to eat; I was thirsty, and you gave Me nothing to drink; 43 I was a stranger, and you did not invite Me in; naked, and you did not clothe Me; sick, and in prison, and you did not visit Me.’ 44 Then they themselves also will answer, ‘Lord, when did we see You hungry, or thirsty, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not [e]take care of You?’ 45 Then He will answer them, ‘Truly I say to you, to the extent that you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to Me.’ 46 These will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.”
